The Greek Orthodox Community
North Australia (GOCNA) represents the Greek people
of Darwin. We have many Greeks who have come to Darwin,
established themselves and have made Darwin their second
home. Our people have progressed and excelled in various
fields such as the building & concrete industry,
sponge industry, supermarket and restaurant business.
We also have many who have selected the professional
field such as doctors, teachers, lawyers, accountants,
computer technicians and engineers, architects, real
estate agents and many others.
Our aim as a community is to maintain
the unity of the Greeks, ( traditions, customs and beliefs,
culture, religion, language, etc.) through our local
Greek church, St. Nicholas, our Greek Orthodox School,
as well as through various festivals/activities such
as The Glenti (which occurs once a year, usually June
9 or 10), The Botanical Garden Fair (Mid August).
The Greek Orthodox Community North
Australia is a dominant and powerful community, and
I feel through collaboration, co-operation, and understanding
of its people, this community will always maintain its
strength.
